Family Time

\"Family

When I gave up my well-paid job in retail management back in 2013, it was for a variety of reasons including the cliché that I wanted to enjoy more family time.

I don\’t have young children but I really did feel like I was missing out spending quality time with my parents, my brothers, my stepdaughters and, yes, my husband, Steve.

My life was such a rush all the time and most of my family conversations happened \”hands-free\” during my commute from Bristol back to Gloucester.

Easter was one of my favourite times of the year, not because I\’m especially religious but because I was guaranteed to have a Sunday off and it doesn\’t carry the same pressure as Christmas, does it? Steve and I would always try to do something together on that special day and I have many wonderful memories of country pub lunches. One year, when I was working in Romford, we went into Central London for the day (everyone else had left the big city!) and found a live band playing to about 20 people in The Barbican Centre, for free!

These days, any day could be like Easter Sunday because I can choose what I do and when I do it. However, this year, we\’ll be heading to Devon to spend time with my Mum, my aunts and my cousins. Proper family time and I can\’t wait!

Do you wish you could spend more time with your family? It\’s only a cliché because it is so important, you know. How are you going to make it happen?

I spoke to a woman recently who said \”My baby girl is now 11 years old!\” Where did the years go?

Your Dream Job is the one that\’s right for you, right now!

When you\’re ready to step off the hamster-wheel and make time for you and your family, you might benefit from working with a career coach, to help you through. For me, your dream job is the job that\’s right for you, right now. So whatever the obstacles might be, if your current job is not your dream job, I recommend that you make some changes now. Proper preparation makes the transition so much easier. The alternatives are either keeping your head down and continuing to miss out or waiting until something snaps inside you so that you make a rash decision that you could later regret.

Everyone knows you\’re not happy when you aren\’t in your dream job. Your family love you and want the best for you. Just as you love them and want the best for them. Perhaps you\’ll have the conversations you need to have during your family time this Easter.

I wish you every success and lots of chocolate!
